Reremoana Comes Back to Best Form
SPREADEAGLES STAKES FIELD NO VAR'S MILD SURPRISE (Special to THE SUN.) PALMERSTON N., Tuesday. The second day of the Manawatu Racing Club’s meeting was held today in hot weather. The totalisator handled £ 41,833, against £35,280 on the same day last year. Novar Comes Back Most of the support in the President’s Handicap came for Euphonium, Damaris and Vertigern, but a surprise was in store. Gaze and Damaris made most of the running, and half a mile from home Vertigern and Euphonium were in behind them. Novar moved up fast on the home turn and he was alongside Gaze and Damaris at the entrance to the straight, while Euphonium was handy in the next lot. Novar took charge a furlong from home, and in a good setto with Euphonium hung to the lead and won by a head. Damaris was only half a length away in third place, and Vertigern was fourth, with Black Mint next and Gaze last. Easy for Reremoana Reremoana was a good favourite for the Palmerston North Stakes, and nothing had a chance of beating him. Silver Rule was in front half a mile from home, followed by Covent Garden and Flicker, with Kiosk and Reremoana next. Reremoana moved forward on the turn and was second to straighten up for home. Kiosk came at him a furlong from the post, but he went away and won by four lengths. Kiosk was well clear of Covent Garden, and Silver Rule and Flicker were next. All six acceptors in the Himitangi Handicau went to the post, Kilmiss £1,634, Royal Game £1,343, and Polar £l,OlO being evenly backed, but there was a marked drop thereafter. Royal Game led from Kilmoyer and Kilmiss passing through the straight, and they
raced in that order into the back, where Polar made a forward move, while Kilmoyler suddenly dropped back to last position. Royal Game was first to turn for home, and although Polar threw out a challenge the Royal Stag gelding responded to pressure to prevail by a head, with Kilmiss third three lengths behind Polar. Kilmoyer came again to take fourth berth, ahead of Ardfinnan and Othon. Epistle’s Surprise Lausanne was a better favourite than Licinius and Arrow Boy for the Awapuni Handicap. Dobbin led early, but Epistle took charge crossing the top and led Liciniiig into the straight, going on to win by a length, while Licinius just beat Arrow Lad. Lausanne was a good fourth, and Dobbin fifth. Ring be limited to stable work at Mr. Ring’s stables. Suspension to be • revocable by the executive of the ' conference.” Eulalie’s Winnings The three-year-old filly Eulalie. who ; won the Stewards’ Handicap at Riccarton last month, has had an easy time so far, as she has only started eight times. Last season she won three races, while she was second once and unplaced twice, while this season she has started twice for a win and a second. Though only moderately raced. Eulalie has proved a good stake earner. The value of the 1 Gimcrack Stakes, which she won in Australia, amounted to £1,970. and, with £1,200 credited to her in New Zealand at the same she won £3.209 at two years old. So far this < season Eulalie has captured £990. which brings her total to £4.199. This J record stands an excellent chance of j being enhanced at Ellerslie during the next week or so.
