“SERIOUS PROPOSITION”
PERPETUITIES LAW GIFT TO TREASURY By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. LONDON, Monday. In connection with the gift by an undisclosed benefactor of £IOO,OOO to the State, which is to accumulate with interest for a long period, and is then to be used toward the redemption of the National Debt, it is hoped that others will follow the example, now that the law against perpetuities has been altered in favour of a fund of this description. Mr. D. H. Herbert, M.P., considers this to be a serious proposition. He says it is impossible for £1,000,000 to become £256,000,000 in 105 years.—A. and N.Z.
