At the inquest on Arthur Victor Valentine, who died suddenly yesterday morning at the Borstal Institute, where he was awaiting the magisterial hearing of a charge of murder, Dr. Crawford said that the deceased had manifested symptoms which resulted in witness recommending his early transfer to the Seacliff Mental Hospital for observation. Both his heart and kidneys were greatly enlarged. Death was caused by progressive clotting of blood in the heart causing cardiac syncope. A verdict was returned accordingly. Valentine, who was accountant to the Bluff Harbour Board, was arrested at Stewart Island on December 15 on a charge of murdering Andrew Jose, a Javanese fisherman.
