Mr. N. M. Rogers, of the staff of the Christchurch Boys’ High School, has been granted an extension of leave for the first term of 1928, to enable him to complete his investigation into the helium content of New Zealand natural gases.
Mr. G. Baildon, Mayor of Auckland, Mr. H. R. Mackenzie, chairman of the Harbour Board, and Mr. H. Marler are leaving this evening on a launch fishing cruise at the Great Barrier and Russell. They expect to be absent for about two weeks.
Mr. J. W. Woodcock, assistant-ii>-structor of the field division of the Department of Agriculture at Auckland, has been appointed divisional instVuclor at Taumarunui. Mr. J. E. Bell, late farm supervisor at Wesley College Paerata, will take his place.
Mr. D. McKenzie, Mayor of Petone, who is retiring on superannuation, was entertained at a fareweU function recently by the employees of the Petone Railway Workshops. For 18 years he has been a member of Railway Appeal Boards in both the North and South Islands.
The Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, Mrs. Coates and family have arrived in Dargaville and are now occupying their seaside residence at Coast, where Mr. Coates will spend a holiday. He will set aside a date early in the new year for the purpose of receiving deputations and attending to matters concerning the electorate.
The Rev. J. W. Chandler, who will * ct as assistant to the Rev. Jasper Calder at the Auckland Anglican City Mission, will arrive from Australia early in the New Year. Mr. Chandler will also assist Mr. Calder in his duties as chaplain at Mount Eden Gaol.
In appreciation of the continuance o' employment in spite of the recent disastrous fire, the employees of Henderson and Pollard’s joinery mill met meir managing-director, Mr. H. H.
