CORNWELL CUP CONTESTS
TRIAL RACES CONCLUDED AUCKLAND CREW SELECTED The Takapuna Boating Club has completed the trials for the selection of the crew to represent Auckland in the forthcoming Cornwell Cup contests. Three races were held on Thursday evening and as a result I. McGregor and I. McMasters were the boys chosen. The first race brought out three entries, the boats and crews being: Trevic—Rogers brothers; Kitty—Tabuteau and Ashwin; Delphine—Stuart and McGregor. Result: —Kitty, 7h 26m 555, 1; Delphine, 7h 26m 575, 2; Trevic, 7h 27m 555, 3. This was an excellent race, only 2s separating the first two boats. The crews then changed boats for the second trial, the competing boats and crews being:—Trevic—McMasters and McGregor; Comet—Tabuteau and Ashwin; Frolic—Aldridge and McGregor; Delphine—Hewitt and McGill; Kitty—Rogers brothers. Result: Kitty, 8h 7m 18s 1 Comet, 8h 8m 40s . • 2 Delphine, 8h 8m 42s .. •• •• .. 3 Frolic, 8h 8m 44s 0 Trevic, 8h 8m 52s 0 The boys again changed boats for the third race, craft and crews being: Trevic —Tabuteau and Ashwin; Kitty— McMasters and McGregor; Comet—the Rogers brothers; Frolic—Aldridge and McGill; Delphine—Stuart and McGregor. Result: Kitty, 8h 43m 35.. .... •••• 1 Comet, 8h 43m 55.. .*•••••• 2 Trevic, 8h 44m 20s 3 Frolic, 8h 44m 25s 4 Delphine, 8h 44m 50s 5 This heat was also a very close race, only two seconds again separating the leading boats, and lm 47s was the time between first and last boats. McGregor and McMasters were therefore chosen as being the most consistent crew who gave the best exhibition of handling the boats.
