APPLE EXPORTS INCREASE
GROWERS CONFIDENT Fruitgrowers in the Dominion have been inspired with confidence by the Government increasing the guarantee on exported apples, and the prospects for this season’s consignments appear to be bright. Application has been made at the Auckland office of the Fruitgrowers’ Federation for shipping space for 35,000 cases, which is nearly double the quantity exported from the Auckland Province last season, when the figure reached 18,000 cases. Of this season's exports 24,000 cases will go to Great Britain and the remainder to South America. The New Zealand Fruit Control Board has been advised by the Overseas Shipping Committee that the first shipment of 9,400 cases will be loaded by the Northumberland at Wellington, between February 6 and February 11Between February 10 and February 14 the Tainui will load 8,300 cases. It is not expected that a shipment will leave Auckland before the end of February or the middle of March.
