Wellington at 9 p.m. 9/12/27, returning 12.51 p.m. 10/12/27. The gear box and water and oil supply was officially sealed. The time taken (including 50 mins, for stops when engine was kept running) was 15 hrs. 51 mins. Average speed was 15.15 m.p.h. and only 1J pts. of oil and a quart of water was consumed on the trip. V Read what Campbell Motors Ltd. say: “This was a gruelling test of endurance/and your ‘SHELL’ Motor Spirit and New Double ‘SHELL’ Motor Oil were equal to the exacting requirements of motor fuel under such conditions. We are proud of the achievement of our ‘Rugby,’ and you will be glad to know that your Products responded faultlessly, and contributed in no small measure towards the accomplishment of a trial such as we believe has never previously been attempted in New Zealand.”
