RECORD BOOKINGS
MANY PEOPLE TRAVEL RAILWAY PASSENGER FIGURES From December 1 to December 22 the booking office at the Auckland Railway Station has sold £24,583 17s 6d worth of tickets. No wonder the officials are looking rather weary. Passenger traffic has been particularly heavy and will be heavier this evening. Trains leaving for the holiday resorts and for Wellington have been crowded and at the last minute extra carriages have had to be provided on some of them. From December 1 until last evening 13,991 ordinary tickets had been sold and 6,596 holiday excursion tickets. During that time 9,629 seats had been reserved. The sale of ordinary tickets has amounted to £12,601 9s lid and for excursion tickets £11,982 7s 7d. Fares have been booked to all parts of New Zealand, and from the figures already available it looks as though the Christmas season will be a record.
