DIXIELAND REDECORATED

SOME FINE EFFECTS Wonderful Eastern colourings and effects have been arranged during the recent redecoration of Dixieland, Auckland's popular “Cabaret by the Sea.” A remarkable canopy of wisteria reminding one strongly of a romantic Japanese atmosphere, appears to float overhead. Designs are largely executed in futuristic effects. Delicious col breezes from the sea after a strenuous dance are not the Ipast among Dixieland’s summer attractions. Supper or soft drinks may be served on the balcony overlooking the beach. Clyde Howley’s famous Internationals provide the music for dancing. Dixieland has long been acknowledged by globe-trotters as one of the finest cabarets in Australasia. EQUAL FOOTING Dr. Kate Mackay. medical inspector of factories in Victoria, who was one of the two women observers appointed by the Federal Ministry to accompany the Industrial Mission to the United States, said on her return that of 500 industries in the XJ.S.Awomen had invaded all but 36 and were accepted everywhere on the same footing as men. They were also holding responsible executive positions in large factories as well as in Government services. Dr. Mackay found that the Women’s Labour Bureau at Washington was doing excellent work in formulating standards, creating favourable public opinion and initiating legislation with regard to the employment of women.

Bats are now very large ** very small. In the case of the latter, eye veils play their part in the trimming scheme. Frequently, too, they are decorated with an immensely chic plaque of small flowers sewn closely together.
