“ROSE MARIE”
AT HIS MAJESTY’S . The greatest enthusiasm marked the second night of the presentation in Auckland of the far-famed musical 'comedy “Rose Marie.” The big audience was not slow to realise that here was something much superior to the usual run of musical comedy. Miss Harriet Bennet came to New Zealand with the highest reputation, and famous for her characterisation of the name part. Much was expected of her and from the very moment she flashed on to the stage she made, an immediate conquest of Auckland theatregoers by her youthful charm and sweet grace. She is vivacious and delightfully feminine. Although such numbers as “The Indian Love Call,” “Itoso Marie” and “Pretty Things”
were on everybody’s lips months before the arrival of the play, they seemed wonderfully different and lost all suspicion of staleness when Miss Bennet sang them. The now famous Totem Ballet is a wonderful piece of stage-work—orig-inal, alive and glowing with colour and movement. Mr. Bentley provided the best laugh enjoyed for years. He is very tiny, but There is to be a Christmas tree and jests like , a benevolent Father Chirstmas. He is the best and cleanest comedian seen in Auckland for manv a day.
