“I WON’T FORGET”
ISLAND INMATE’S OUTBURST PAKATOA MATRON THREATENED “T DID my share at the Island— I washed the blankets, and you’ve left me in the filth. But I won’t forget —l won’t forget.’* After this outburst to-day against the matron of the Pakatoa Island Inebriates’ Home, Mary Ann Fowler left the Police Court dock to serve a sentence of one month’s imprisonment. She pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and insubordination. Elizabeth Poulton, officer in charge of the Island, said that accused became an inmate last June. The place was now in a ferment, and no one dared speak to her. She had assaulted one inmate, and the others were all frightened of her. “It is impossible to carry on if she stays there,” said witness. The accused, when asked if she had any questions, made her wrathful statement.
