BROADCASTING “CARMEN”
Sir, — Judging by the announcement at IYA, Auckland, on Saturday last, lis-teners-in were to be treated 'to a special item on Monday, the 19th inst., in the shape of a relay from Madame Irene Ainsley’s production of “Carmen” at His Majesty’s Theatre. As a lover of music, I hailed this with much joy, and looked forward to a great treat. What resulted? Two short “snaps” of the opera. Between these two relays the announcer stated: “IYA is now closing down for 20 minutes and IZB will entertain you.” I kept the phones to my ears, but failed to obtain the faintest sound. It seemed a great pity the whole performance of “Carmen” was not relayed, and somehow I am inclined to think that the failure in this did not rest with IYA, nor Madame Irene Ainslev, but with someone else who failed to realise that such a courtesy would tend to gladden the hearts of many thousands of people. JOSEPH WILD. Oratia.
