NOTABLE CHAMPION MR. HARRY A. PARKER One of the most notable tennis champions New Zealand has produced, Mr. Harry A, Parker, arrived by the Aorangi, and is making a short tour of the Dominion before he leaves for England. With Geof. Ollivier he holds the record of having collected the New Zealand singles’ title six times, the dates being 1895, 1902, 1903, 1904, 1905 and 1907. DAVIS CUP PLAYER He was a member of the New Zealand team which defeated New South Wales in 1596, and he captained the Dominion side which did the same thing in 1904. Going to Australia he won the championships of every state and played for New South Wales many times in inter-State matches. In England he won provincial titles and got into the final of the Wimbledon doubles. With L. O. S. Poidevin he won the doubles championship of Europe at Hamburg, and in 1905 and 1908 he represented Australia and New Zealand in the Davis Cup matches. Born in Christchurch in 1873, he learnt his first tennis at the Wanganui Collegiate School, where he was coached by the late the Rev. J. M. Marshall, himself a New Zealand champion. It is now 14 years since Mr. Parker played big tennis. His record is such an amazing one that there is little probability of it ever being equalled. He is now a resident of Sydney.
