AUCKLAND GUN CLUB’S BIG DAY AT PANMURE

A. DOBSON—N.Z. CHAMPION Favoured with ideal weather conditions for shooting, and a large attendance of visiting and local sportsmen, the North Island and Auckland championship carnival was held at Panmure yesterday. Among those shooting were E. Groome, Hawke’s Bay; L. Webb, Hikurangi] P. V. Mason, Christchurch; G. Peach and C. Seddon, Hamilton; E. R. King, Waihi, and all the leading local members. The First Five Bird Match was divided by A. Dobson (33yds), E. Groome (29), F. H. Seccombe (29), C. Seddon (29), D. S. Ewing (27), C. E. Hodge (24), J. Robertson (24), A. Hannigan (24), and H. E. Knight (22), with the possible. The North Island and provincial championships were shot in conjunction with the Five Bird Match, and were won outright by A. Dobson, the present New Zealand champion, who managed the possible of 21. F. H. Seccombe, L. Webb, C. Seddon and W. G. Rae tied for second with 19 each and divided second . and third prizes. In addition to the sweepstakes, Dobson received the handsome gold medals presented by the Colonial Ammunition

Company and the Auckland Gun Club respectively. The handicap match for Mr. C. IT. Drysdale’s Cup resulted in a tie between A. Dobson (34yds), I. Lomas (21) and F. E. McKenzie (21), each getting the possible of 3. Mr. A. Dobson then sportingly retired in favour of the other two shooters. An exciting contest ended when the veteran I. Lomas missed his thirteenth bird, F. E. McKenzie getting his and winning the trophy.

A First Miss-Out Sweep was won outright by the colt, W. Fairley, on the fourth round.

Street Collections. —Cr. J. Hislop, Deputy-Mayor of Devonport, at the Borough Council meeting last night, raised the question of authority for a street collection for unemployed last Friday. He felt the borough should be chary about these collections. The Mayor said an urgent application for a permit had been made and he had granted it conditionally on the money raised in Devonport being available for relief work in Devonport.
