1 i FOUR BRIDESMAIDS AT- j TEND MISS AILSA BURNS AT HER WEDDING AT ST. I MARK’S TO-DAY I 1

SHADES OF ROSE

When Ailsa, the elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Burns of “Doune,” Remuera Road, was married at St. Mark’s Church this afternoon to Dr. Lawrence Samuel Ludbrook, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry .S. Ludbrook of Tupe Tupe, Bay of Islands, she wore a delightful bridal gown of ivory crepe faille, made with a yoke of silver lace, the pattern of which was outlined with silver beads. The front of the bodice opened to show a vest of effective shell-pink georgette veiled with silver lace, and the hooped skirt was shirred around the waistline and possessed a dainty 'Victorian air. Opening in front over an underskirt of silver lace, the graceful skirt was banded with a deep hem of transparent tulle. From the shoulders hung a beautiful train of silver lace mounted on palest shell-pink chiffon that was daintily blended with parchment chiffon to form a softly-ruched foundation. A: rose of organdie and pink chiffon caught the train at the waist and at the foot a large bow of lame made a charming finish, set as it 'was amidst a number of pretty organdie and chiffon flowers. . The veil of Iloniton lace was one that had been worn by the bride’s mother, an exquisite thing of filmy texture, lightly embossed with lovers* knots and caught at either side with a spray of orange blossoms. From beneath the attractively long frock twinkled the bride’s dainty shoes, fashioned of silver tissue with sparkling diamante fronts and straps. She carried a sheaf of Madonna lilies, tied with streamers of gleaming tissue.

Four maids attended the bride, the Misses Elizabeth Burns (chief bridesmaid) Audrey Barker (Gisborne), Pauline Murphy (Gisborne) and Marjorie Vaile, wearing charming frocks of ivory lace and rose-blush georgette. The bodices were of lace, embossed in front with a single beautiful rose, and drifting easily down into graceful lacebanded skirts of georgette that were quite short in front, but dipped to achieve considerable dignity of line at the back. Trails of tiny pink and silver flowers trimmed the frocks at the waistlines, and with them were worn hats of blush-rose crinoline straw with tulle and feather trimmings. All four maids carried bouquets of pastel-shaded mauve and pink sweet peas. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Craig Cruickshank, and the bride was given away by her father. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. Cecil Ludbrook as best man.

The church was beautifully decorated with flowersjthat were massed about the chancel rails and appeared in posies on the ends of the pews. After the ceremony a reception was held at “Doune” the home of the bride’s parents, where more than 450 guests were received by Mrs. Burns,, who wore a smart ensemble of beige georgette and lace, caught in soft draperies at the front with a coloured buckle. With her gown was worn a hat of crushedrose balibuntal lined with matching georgette, and trimmed with narrow chenillo velvet ribbon in a deeper tone. Mrs. Burns carried a dainty mauve-sliaded posy. The house was exquisitely decorated with a wealth of beautiful blossoms. The bride’s travelling toilette is of rose-beige georgette and lace, and includes a frock and coat, the frock being simply made with panniered effect and a deep lace hem and long sleeves 01 lace. The coat is of pleated rosebeige georgette trimmed with rows of narrow matching fringe, ancl a collar of beige fur is finished with a posy of rose and mauve toning. A hat of id ink crinoline-straw will be worn with the ensemble and is trimmed with tulle on the brim and a band of softest mauve and pink feathers around the crown. Among the relatives at the reception were:

Mr. and Mrs. Ludbrook, Mr. and Mrs A. M. Ferguson, Mr. and Mrs. Mervyn Reecl Mrs F. Barker (Gisborne), and Miss E. Barker, Mr. and Mrs. F Parker, Mrs. Brassey, Mrs. McLean, Miss Kinsella, Mrs. V. Reid, Miss Ludbrook (Gisborne), Mrs! W. Berry (Wellington).
