Mack are in love with Mary Astor. Farrell is a dashing New Yorker, who attempts to sweep Mary off her feet by his ardour. Mack is the home-, town lad who has loved her from childhood. They go into battle. Halfway up San Juan Hill, in the thrilling charge of Roosevelt’s rough riders, an a mazing ti ling happens—something that is indefinably sad and yet wonderful in revealing the nature of men.
Mary is far away, but the test of love is decided. Victor Fleming directed this splendid Paramount picture, which has in its featured cast Noah Beery and George Bancroft. Frank Hopper appears as Roosevelt. Wallace and Gennett, the dancers, who have been meeting with such enthusiastic receptions during the week, will present an entirely new act tomorrow, introducing new and original soft shoe and eccentric dances. Eddie Horton, at the organ, will fea-J ture “The Holy City,” also a novelty song film, “Auld Lang Syne.” Maurice Guttridge is selecting appropriate music for the Christmas season, and supporting items will include a screen comedy, interesting world's gazette, and scenic.
Emil Jannings’s latest Paramount starring picture called “The Street of Sin,” resembled a languages class offstage. Janning’s copy of the scenario was in German; Mauritz Stiller, the director, had his in Swedish; Olga Baklanova’s was in Russian, and Fay Wray’s in English. Stiller speaks Russian, German and English as well as Swedish, so he was able to give directions in all of the tongues spoken by his players.
