STRAND, ONEHUNGA

VAUDEVILLE AND PICTURES In “Hills of Kentucky,” the Warner Bros.’ production for Master Pictures, which comes to the Strand Theatre, Onehunga, to-night, Rin-Tin-Tin returns to the locale of “Below the Line/’ his success of last season. The story and setting are quite different, however. This time he moves among the rugged and primitive country folk of the Kentucky Hills. In the early sequences he is seen as a puppy. Rin-Tin-Tin, Junr., plays the part. It is a lean year and the hungry dogs, driven from their homes, band together in a pack, which ravages the farms. By' the time the country regains its prosperity, the pack is under the leadership of the puppy, now grown. The story is that of a little crippled child who wins the love and confidence of this formidable beast. In addition to this feature film a first-class vaudeville programme will be presented.

“Love in a Cottage/’ is an old theme in both written and pictured romance, but Mary Pickford has a new one that might be called “love in a packing case.” In “My Best Girl,” the noted star s latest film, one of the scenes centres around a huge packing case in the basement of a bargain store. Miss Pickford, who plays the role of a hardworking little shopgirl in the establishment, has the empty case fitted up as a nook, with flowers, pictures and even a clock, where she spends her scanty leisure moments. In this tiny retreat, she and the son of the millionaire owner (Charles Rogers), have their lunches together, and romance is the outcome.
