ENGINEER’S DEATH

FELL THROUGH CAR DOOR Press Association. GISBORNE, Wednesday. At the inquest into the death of John James Kean, the Cook country engineer, whose body was found in the river on Tuesday with the car balanced on a bridge, the side wheel hanging over the river and the door open, evidence was given that the deceased had taken a corner sharply when turning on to the bridge, and having just avoided running over one side of the bridge swerved to the other side and apparently fell or was jolted through the door into the river. A verdict of accidental drowning during the course of his duties as county engineer was returned.
