SIGNED BY GREAT BRITAIN AN INDEPENDENT STATE By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. CAIRO, Monday. The treaty between Britain and Iraq contains 16 articles. A summary of these is as follows:—Britain recognise Iraq as an independent Sovereign State; and peace and friendship will exist between the respective monarchs. The high contracting parties engage to maintain friendly relations, each doing its utmost to prevent all illegal actions in its country that might be calculated to have a repercussion upon the peace and order of the other country.

Britain undertakes to support Iraq as a candidate for membership of the League of Nations in 1932. provided the present level of progress has been maintained and that things go well in the meantime in Iraq. The Prime Minister, Mr. Baldwin, stated in the House of Commons that the Government had signed the new treaty, and that there would be an opportunity for a debate before its ratification.—A. and N.Z.-Sun.
