CABLES AND WIRELESS

GOVERNMENTS TO CONFER CANADA’S REPRESENTATIVE By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. Reed. 10.50 a.m. OTTAWA, Tues. Sir Campbell Stuart has been chosen to represent Canada on the committee to examine the Pacific Cable Board’s affairs. Britain and the Dominions will each nominate one representative, also a technical adviser. Canada’s technical adviser has not been selected. The committee meets in London in January. A London message says that the Postmaster-General, Sir W. Mit-chell-Thomson, in answer to a question in the House of Commons, said he had invited the Dominions and the Governments of India to nominate representatives to attend a conference as soon as practicable, to consider the question of the cable and wireless service.

Colonel J. C. Wedgwood, Labour member for Newcastle, asked if the object was to avoid competition and keep up prices, or to secure competition so as to keep them down. The Postmaster-General said the object was to consider a question of vital interest to the Governments concerned. • Colonel W. G. Nicholson, Conservative member for Hampshire, asked if the wireless companies would be invited to the conference. The Postmaster-General: It will be a conference of Governments. —A. and N.Z.-Sun.
