OLD THAMES GIRLS’ GIFTS
CHRISTMAS CHEER FOR NEEDY Christmas gifts given by members and friends for the poor and needy were distributed by the Old Thames Girls’ Association at a meeting held yesterday in the Pitt Street Methodist schoolroom. Mrs. C. T. Reid, vicepresident, presided. Gifts included sums of money and over 200 garments, besides poultry, meat, groceries and general produce. These were divided among social workers in the city or delivered by committee members who knew of specially needy cases. It was decided to hold the next general meeting of old Thames pioneers in the Town Hall on March 10. Sincere expressions of sympathy were sent to the president, Mrs. Alfred Oldham, who was absent owing to illness. Members intend to present her with a silvermounted stick-seat umbrella.
