ROAD IMPROVEMENT AT NORTH EGMONT
AUCKLAND FIRM’S CONTRACT (Special to THE SUN.) NEW PLYMOUTH. To-day. A contract for the reconstruction of the road through the forest reserve to the North Egmont mountain hostel has been let to Isherwood, Bellam and Company, of Auckland. The work was commenced to-day. The price is £6,993 18s. It is proposed to metal and seal three miles and 20 chains nearest the hostel, and the remaining three-quar-ters of a mile, which is much less steep in grade and in much better order, will be reformed and rolled only. The work is to be completed by March 15, 1929. The new road will be 15ft. 6in. wide and many acute corners will be improved. It will provide for traffic both ways instead of the one-way system in operation at present. The road will remain open to traffic while th© work is proceeding.
