THE ROYAL SUNBEAMS

OPENING TO-MORROW The opening programme for the Royal Sunbeams, who commence a New Zealand tour at the National Theatre to-morrow (Thursday) afternoon, is one that will undoubtedly meet with great approval. Entitled “A Merry Christmas Party,” the “revuette,” as it is termed, bristles with novelties, notably the Doll Ballet, the Tiny Tots, the Radiant Ballet, the Royal Merry Twinklers, and the Royal Sunbeam Acrobats. Many, concerted numbers and ensembles have been arranged, including a grand exposition of “The Black Bottom,” in original costumes, by Jackie Clarke and the entire company. Jackie Clarke is, of course, well known here, but there are several others in the company of equal merit, notably Baby Doreen, the seven-year-old child marvel, Harry Ussher, the phenomenal boy soprano, Alice Johnson and Valda Chate, leaders of the ballets, Gwen Jones, and others. Special lighting effects and scenery will be used, and an augmented orchestra has been arranged for. In addition to the Sunbeams, who will appear twice daily, at 2.30 and 8 p.m., there will be a full picture programme, the feature being “April Fool,” starring Alexander Carr, Raymond Keane, Mary Alden and Baby Peggy. The box plans for the first six nights are at the theatre.
