MAYOR TO ACT AS FATHER CHRISTMAS
TOYS AND FOOD FOR POOR (Special to THE SUN.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. The Mayor of Christchurch, the Rev. J. K. Archer, will act as Father Christmas to 663 children this year, for the applications made to him for toys total that number. In addition to toys, food and groceries for the holidays will be provided for families in need of them. Mrs. A. E. Herbert has charge of the work of distribution. Two hundred families will be helped on Saturday. It is realised that hungry children cannot appreciate even the most beautiful doll or shiniest motor-car.
The distribution will be carried out by the Christchurch Rotary Club from Nurse Mauda’s building. Twenty-six cars provide*! by the Rotarians will carry the presents. In addition to toys families in need will receive groceries, potatoes, vegetables and a plum pudding, all to the value of about £2.
