SHEIK THE SEA-HORSE

ENJOYS OCEAN TRIPS TROTTING TRAINER ARRIVES Sea voyages are enjoyed by Sheik, who has made the trip across the Tasman many times. With his stablemates Happy Rosa and Native King he arrived by the Maunganui this morning. “They didn’t turn a hair,” said the owner-trainer, Mr. Peter Riddle, who is one of the most capable reinsmen in the Southern Hemisphere. Not so fortunate was Single Spear, Mr. Dick King’s galloper, who suffered from mal-de-mer and was seedy when the ship arrived. Sheik, who collected the New Zealand Cup in 1924, has won five races since he left the Dominion in May.

The trotting mare Happy Rosa has won three and the pacer Native Prince two in Australia. Both are New Zealand-bred. “This is the only place for trotting,” said Mr. Riddle, who is out to collect the Auckland Cup. He considered that New Zealand was the greatest place in the world for the sport, “with America thrown in.” Great Bingen and Peterwah would do well in the b£st company of the United States, he said. “Are you confident about winning?” lie was asked. “You can say I’m a trier,” replied the popular Peter, with a quiet chuckle.
