ONEHUNGA REFUSES CITY’S INVITATION
TRANSPORT CONFERENCE “This is a counter-move to the organisation already in existence to secure better transport to the suburbs,” said Cr. Hill, at the meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council last evening, when the Auckland City Council’s invitation to a conference was read. The Mayc agreed. It was, he said, in opposition to the platform adopted by the recent conference of local bodies, when it was decided to have nothing to do with any Government commission appointed to inquire into the transport question. “This proposal is of no use to us,” he added. Tho letter from the town clerk of Auckland, Mr. J. S. Brigham, invited the borough council to send representatives to meet the Tramways Committee at a conference of local bodies to be held to-morrow afternoon, to consider proposals for the continuance of the omnibus services in the district, pending a decision by a Government commission of inquiry. “We have already suggested two or three suburban bus services,” said Cr. Speight, “and the City Council would have nothing to do with them.” The letter was “received ”
