The New Rugby Silent Four
Feature of Mounting in Live Rubber VIBRATIONLESS CAR VS7ITH the engine mounted on four cushions of resilient rubber, the latest “Rugby” four and six-cylindered cars run so smoothly that they can scarcely be heard, and in addition the car is free at all times from that objectionable engine vibration, ‘'Headlight” had the pleasure of a ride in one of these new Rugbys, and was astonished at the difference the rubber-mounting made. It insulates the body from the vibration of the engine, and ensures comfortable, steady riding. The latest models of the Rugby line embody many other features and refinements, making these cars a wonderful proposition for the money. For example, they are equipped with patent cone-spring shackles designed to eliminate wear and secure freedom from rattles. These are so made that any wear is automatically taken up right away, so that they require no adjusting, yet do not rattle. Another feature of the Rugby cars is their wonderful accessibility. Once under the bonnet everything is designed for convenience. Also the gearbox is mounted separately from the engine, so that it is readily accessible right under the front floor boards.
In every other respect these new models are right up-to-date, from the force-feed lubrication of the hollow crankshafts and camshafts, the grouping of all the dash instruments under one panel, with indirect lighting, the bullet headlamp, and domed guards, to the alteration of the steering to the drag-link type. The six-cylinder models are also equipped with oil filter, gas-colater and air cleaner as standard fittings. The clutch remains the same type as that fitted to all Rugby cars, and. in fact, to all Durant products. It is claimed for this clutch that it is impossible for it to either grab or burn out. The Rugby cars sold in New Zealand come from the Canadian factory of the company and are practically a British Empire product in that the chassis, body, gears, axles, wheels, etc. (in fact, everything except the actual engine unit), is made from Canadian materials.
