SWIMMING BATHS FOR ROYAL OAK SCHOOL
SUBSIDY ASKED FOR ONE TREE HILL’S REFUSAL “Although I entirely sympathise ■with the proposal, I believe it would be unwise for us to create a precedent,” said Mr. R. G. Clark, chairman of the One Tree Hill Road Board, last evening when the Royal Oak School Committee’s request for an annual donation of £lO toward the upkeep of its swimming baths came before the meeting* Although there are 145 children from the One Tree Hill district attending the school, Mr. H. B. Bobbie pointed out that they may not all be ratepayers’ children. Finally the question was referred to the Finance Committee to report. The engineer reported that Rocklleld Road had been scarified and graded, and several roads had been dressed with Mangere scoria. Maurice Road had been repaired and Pukenui Road had been re-formed. Permission was given Messrs. W. E. Taylor and Son to erect a bus shelter at Horotutu Road, providing the plans are submitted to the board for approval. The building inspector notified that 10 permits, involving £4,997, had been issued during the last fortnight. It was reported that the nameplates of Botha Road and Fairfax Avenue had been changed, and now corresponded with the name on all Government plans. According to the engineer, the Great South Road paving contract was almost completed. He said the work had been carried out in a thoroughly satisfactory manner and had met the approval of the Main Highways Board.
