EVENING SPORTS

MEETING AT DOMAIN KELLS REGAINING FORM At the evening sports meeting staged on the Domain cricket ground last night, the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club decided two running events, a 300yds handicap and a onemile handicap, while the Manukau Club had one wheel race. Savidan was unable to compete in the one-mile event, but Gordon Kells,

his old rival in the distances, came out to give one of the biggest surprises of the season. It was a real “come back” on the part of this old Auckland champion, who. starting off the 40yds mark, ran a great mile to come in and win by a yard from L. C. Barker in 4min 24 3-5. It appears

now that Kells is at last regaining the form which won for him the Dominion cross-country championship last year. In the 300yds handicap, J. S. Watt, the young Auckland half-mile champion, running off 12yds. ran a great race and gained a win by nearly a yard from T. E. Henry, with L. IT. Meredith a close third. Shirley took the lead almost immediately. Round the home bend Watt, closely followed by Henry, Meredith and Deere, drew up to Shirley, with McCoy and Elliott going well, and held good positions. Down the straight it appeared that the race was to be between Henry and Meredith, but Watt with his usual determined finish passed them both. Results are as follow: 300 Y ds. Handicap.—J. S. }Yatt, 12yds, .1; T. E. Henry, 6yds, 2; L. H. Meredith, 4yds, 3. Also started: A. J. Elliott, scr; J. L. McCoy, 3yds; D. P. Deere, 6yds; D. M. Gordon, 9yds; L. R. Hook. 7yds: IT. S.
