NEW GUINEA TRADE REACHES A RECORD
MANDATED TERRITORY GOOD OUTPUT OF COPRA By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Reed. 10.2 a.m. CANBERRA, To-day. A Parliamentary paper dealing with Ule mandated territory of New Guinea shows that the exports for th ® y ear ended in June, 1926, exceeded all previous returns, with a total of £1,105,000, of which over gold, and £47,000 in shell. Copra exports have steadily increased from 26,000 tons in 1921 to 46,000 tons in 1925-26. Imports have grown for the same period from £469,000 to £568,000. At the Edie Creek goldfield is a white population, almost 100, nearly all bf them returned soldiers. The output of gold for the coming year is expected to show a considerable increase. REVENUE ACCOUNT The revenue for the year amounted to £259,000, and the expenditure £243,000. The revenue does not include expenditure out of the loan fund or other funds. The native taxpayer contributes a tax of 10s a head, returning in 192526, nearly £20,000. —A. and N.Z.
