TRAINER HUGHES STRIKES TROUBLE

THE Longburn trainer “Billy” Hughes is having rather an anxious time with his profitable pair of pacers, Loch Moigh and Padlock, both of which are billed to appear at Auckland on the second and third days of the Christmas carnival. Loch Moigh injured his hock and hip through getting cast in his box returning from the Waikato, whev he won the Mark Memorial Cup with ease, and as a result he has been on the easy list snice. Padlock has given hints that his legs are none too good, and in consequence the dual winner at the Otahuhu fixture has not been doing any systematic training. Although the cessation of activities will have a detrimental effect upon their prospects, it is quite possible that such stury pacers will pull out sufficiently well enough in their present class to get the prizes despite this handicap.
