PERSONAL.—Captain T. B. Sewell has been appointed to command the Manama, relieving Captain W. Martin, who has assumed command of the Maunganui. Captain A. H. Davey, of the Alaunganui, is awaiting instructions. Captain F. L. G. Jaunay hns been appointed to command the Waitemata, relieving Captain W. W. Hender for holidays. • The Loongana is being recommissioned at Melbourne in command of Captain E. Evans; his deck officers are as follow: Chief, Mr. E. A. Stein: second. Mr. J. V. Bray; third, Mr. R. Blampied.

Mr. E. J. H. Taylor has relieved Mr. C. H. Vincent as third officer of the Kairanga. The latter officer is being granted holidays. Captain W. W. Fish, late of the Wingatui, has taken command of the Kaimanawa, relieving Captain A. H. Prosser for instructions. . Mr. C. C. Waters is joining the Vac kawa as chief officer, relieving Mr. E. 11. Wilson for his holidays.

SOUTHERN CROSS ANCHORS. —The Melanesian Mission steamer Southern Cross went to her anchorage in the stream on Saturday to lay up till the next visit to the Pacific Islands. She will probably remain in port until April.

CARGO FOR NORFOLK ISLAND. — Spedding, Limited, advises that cargo for Norfolk Island will be received alongside the Government steamer Hinentoa on Thursday, December 22. The vessel is scheduled to leave this port on Wednesday, December 28, for Norfolk Island.

SILVER SHELL SAlLS.—Having completed the discharge of the local portion of her cargo of bulk oil from Singapore at Western Wharf, the Silver Shell Steamship Company's tanker Silver Shell sailed from Auckland on Saturday evening for "Wellington to complete discharge.

OTOKIA LEAVES SAN LUlS.—Cabled news has been received by the Union Company' that the tanker Otokia cleared San Luis Obispo on Thursday morning for "Wellington. The vessel brings fuel oil for discharge into the Union Company’s tanks at Miramar, and is due at Wellington on January 9.

GALLIC TO LOAD.-—L. D. Nathan and Company have been advised that the Shaw, Savili and Albion steamer Gallic is to load in New Zealand toward the latter end of January for New York, Halifax and West of England ports. The vessel is due at Auckland on February' 1 and is expected to clear this port finally on February 9.

PORT SYDNEY COMING.—Due at New Plymouth for loading toward the end of this month from Australia, the C. and D. Line’s motor-ship Port Sydney arrives at Auckland on January 5 to take in the local portion of her cargo for Home. From this port the vessel proceeds to Napier and other Southern ports to complete. Her final port of departure and date of sailing have not yet been fixed. Heather Roberton and Company will act as the local agents.

SURREY’S ITINERARY.—The local office of the New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Federal steamer Surrey sailed from Brisbane last Saturday for Tokomaru Bay, where she is due on Thursday' to commence her loading for Home. TAURANGA railway wharf.— The Marine Department advises that the rail way wharf at Tauranga is now open for traffic. The notice states that the wharf is now' used by ships visiting the port The wharf is’ situated M toe northern end of t.lie Strand and opposite Monmouth Redoubt. It is a quav wall structure running north and south. It has a water frontage of 220 ft and a berthage depth of 14ft at M.L.W.S. The northern end of the wharf is marked bv a pole from which is exhibited two lights, vertically disposed sft apart, green over white, green light being 20ft above the wharf decking. The southern end of the wharf is marked by’ a pole from which is exhibited one white light. The wharf shed has two white, lights. wllite hghts are 15ft above tbe wharf decking and situated in a northsouth direction.

N.S.S. CO. HOLIDAY TIME-TABLE. In order to cater for passengers wishing to attend the regattas at Tauranga, Russell and Whangarei. the Matangi is to leave Auckland for Tauranga on December 27 at 7.30 p.m. and Tauranga the following day at 8 p.m. The Clansman will leave Auckland for Russell at 5 p m on December 28. and Russell for Auckland at 7 p.m. the following day. The Clansman will leave Auckland for Whangarei at midnight on Sunday, January' 1, and Whangarei for Auckland at 8 p.m. on January 2.

On Wednesday a day trip is to be run to Manly and Arkle’s Bay, leaving Auckland at 10 a.m. and leaving Manly on the return trip at 5 p.m.

Taking passengers for the Taranaki races the Ngapuhi is to leave Onehunga for New Plymouth at 5.30 p.m. on Friday, December 23. and she is scheduled to leave New Plymouth for Onehunga at 7 p.m. on Thursday December 29.

Saturday. December 31, Wednesday, January 4. and Friday, January 6, the vessel will leave New Plymouth at 7 p.m. for Onehunga.
