CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL
TABERNACLE CONCERT Christmas was very suitably celebrated at the Baptist Tabernacle on Saturday evening, when a musical festival was given by the Tabernacle choir under the . direction of Mr. Arthur E. Wilson. In the choice of programme submitted little fault, could be found. In addition to a performance of the cantata, “Bethlehem,” a beautiful little story of the Nativity set to music by J. H. Maunder, a number of appropriate carols were sung, also excerpts from “The Messiah.” In the cantata good balance was maintained among the various parts and the requirements of light and shade were nicely observed. The soloists. Mesdames N. Halsey Cox and J. Litherland and Messrs. C. Turley. Clinton, Williams, H. S. Reynolds and AY 7 . L. Turley, all showed good appreciation of the requirements of the work which was accorded reverential treatment. Other numbers by the choir were: “O, Holy Night” (Adams), “And the Glory,” from “The Messiah,” and “Hark, the Herald Angels Sing” (Wesley) . A piano and organ duo, “Christmas Chimes,” by Mrs. Bra me Clark and Mr. Arthur E. Wilson, proved an artistic contribution, as also was the soprano aria, “Rejoice Greatly,” sung by Mrs. C. Turley. Handel’s recitative and aria, “Thus Saith the Lord” and “But Who May Abide,’ was sung with fine declamatory effect by Mr. Clinton Williams, a flute solo, Beethoven’s ‘Adagio,” which was well executed by Mrs. Bartlett, also proving a very enjoyable item. * Mrs. T. Brame Clark was the pianist.
