JAMUNA’S KEEPER

YOUNG HINDU’S TROUBLES MUST LEAVE DOMINION Ata Ali, a young Hindu who came to New Zealand as keeper of the elephant Jamuna, now in the Auckland Zoo, was ordered at the Police Court to-day to leave the Dominion before the end of January. Ali was charged with remaining in New Zealand longer than the time allowed in his temporary immigration permit. Mr. F. W. Schramm ..said that the City Council had persuaded Ali to stay longer than he wished, and when his engagement ended he invested his savings. £3OO, in a fruit business. This he had endeavoured to sell without success. The Collector of Customs said that he had been instructed to ask for a deportation order so that the question could be finally settled. The order was made.
