RADIO AGREEMENT
POSITION IN AUSTRALIA AMENDMENT SOUGHT By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. Reed. 9.5 a.m. SYDNEY, Friday. At a conference of the Association for the Development of Wireless in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, it was decided to send a telegram to the Prime Minister, Mr. S. M. Bruce, requesting that certain amendments be made to the Bill which was introduced in the House of Representatives to enact the agreement between Amalgamated Wireless, Ltd., and the Federal Government. The president, Mr. George Taylor, said the five-year period, in which no royalties would be charged for the use of patents for broadcasting, should also cover television and other important radio improvements. The Bill should be amended to allow the interlinking of country centres. The Minister of Health, Dr. Arthur, said radio was bringing country dwellers into contact with all sorts of influences that they had been denied previously and was making them more contented with their lot. Listening sets in hospitals had become therapeutic agents which diverted the minds of patients from their troubles. —A. and N.Z.
