In the House of Commons, replying to questions about the case of John Harvey, a native of Cardiff, who was serving a sentence of eight years’ penal servitude in France for deserting from the Foreign Legion, the Under-Secretary pf State for Foreign Affairs, Mr. G. T. Locker-Lampson, said: “I am happy to be able to say that as soon as the matter was brought to the attention of the French Government, it gave orders for the immediate release of Harvey. “I am sure the House will much appreciate this graceful and generous action of the French Government.” — A. and N.Z.
