NORTH SHORE BUSES
VARIATION OF FARES APPLICATION GRANTED Application to vary the scale of fares laid down by the Transport Appeal Board was made by the Blue Star Motor Service, Ltd., of Birkenhead, at a meeting: of the No. 1 Licensing: Authority this morning. The application was supported by the Birkenhead Borough Council and Birkenhead Ratepayers’ Association, and opposed by the Marine Suburbs Bus Company. In regard to the application Messrs. Alison and Alderton wrote submitting that in accordance with the Act the finding of the Appeal Board was final and that the No. I Licensing Authority had no power to vary or interfere with it in any way. They advised that they did not intend to appear in opposition to the application and should the Licensing Authority see lit to deal with the same, they had advised their client company to take action in the Supreme Court to obtain a writ of prohibition against any decision made.
The borough solicitors submitted that in the event of any change in the position having occurred since the finding of the Appeal Board, the authority would be entitled to vary the conditions.
Mr. A. J. Entrican said that the board would no doubt be pleased to learn that the North Shore Boroughs were to have a licensing authority of their own in the near future. Under the circumstances he thought that it would be advisable to defer the question for that body to handle when constituted.
Miss E. Melville considered that the application should be granted. There was considerable unanimity on the question, and she thought that in fairness to the residents that the question should be immediately dealt with. The application was granted.
