MEOLA CREEK CULVERT
CONTRACT LET ‘ DRAINAGE BOARD MEETS t Eight tenders were received by the Auckland and Suburban Drainage * Board last evening for the construction of a culvetr as part of the Meola a Creek scheme. The contracts ranged from £4,056 to ■, £7,700, and that of Eastman and 1. Winder for the former amount was accepted. The estimate of the board’s engineer, Mr. H. H. Watkins, was £4.770. Substantial progress lias now been made with the preparation of plans to advance the general scheme. The culvert for which the tender was let is one of three. The intention is to duplicate the culvert in Alberton Road, Mount Albert, and the contract will involve the construction of 974 lineal = feet of culvert. Draft plans for the other two will be available at an early rdate. On the engineer's recommendation, the board agreed that the works involved in cleaning, re-grading and generally improving watercourses c.uid be more economically done by day labour, subject to consent by the four contributing bodies upon whom the cost of the works would be assessed. e It was agreed to incorporate the t. Three Kings area of the Mount Koskill road district in the drainage district, subject to certain stipulations. - including the payment to the Drainage - Board of £1,278 in respect of assess■f ments which would have been payable e by the road board had the area been originally included in the drainage d district.
