HOBSON BAY LAKE
FINANCING THE SCHEME £6,500 EAR MARKED The sum of £6,500 has been earmarked, with certain conditions, for financing the artificial lake scheme in Hobson Bay. At a meeting last evening of the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board, it was stated that £6,500 had been placed on fixed deposit in terms of a deed of agreement between the Harbour Board and the Drainage Board, relative to a proposed retaining wall under the main sewer in Hobson Baj'. The board ugreed to the diversion of the money on the recommendation of the engineer, Mr. H. H. Watkins, but it will be subject to validating legislation and the board’3 interests will be safeguarded. Mr. W. E. Bush, the city engineer, is at present preparing a report for the < ’ity Council, which has been asked by the Harbour Board to assume full rewponsiblity for the upkeep of the area. The Harbour Board has stipulated that it will require the area in the tuture. but the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon. has stated that the City Council should not embark on the scheme without obtaining a long lease or the freehold Vtle.
