BIZET’S “CARMEN”
HIS MAJESTY’S ON MONDAY “Carmen,” that colourful tale of Spain, will be presented at His Majesty’s Theatre on Monday evening by Madame Irene Ainsley. The undoubted masterpiece of Bizet, “Carmen,” contains some splendid music and the elements of a great drama. The role of “Carmen” will be taken by Madame Irene Ainsley, who has sung it many times during her distinguished operatic career in England. A fine cast of Auckland singers is announced, and there will be a chorus of 60 voices. Ballets arranged by Miss Daphne Knight will add to the brilliance of the production. The cast will include Misses Nancye Hanna, Mary Hamilton, Marjorie Fair, Irene Frost. Messrs. Jean Dellore. J. de Montalk. Hugh Woods, A. E. Davies, W. Moreton, H. C. Burr, J. Upton. The services of a full orchestra under the baton of Mr. W. E. Webb have been enlisted. “Carmen” will be presented at His Majesty’s Theatre next Monday, but as this theatre is engaged on Tuesday evening another house will be required for the second night. Booking arrangements are advertised. Once more UFA have shown that there are fields of pictorial beauty as yet barely explored by the camera, and in their pursuit of this beauty they give free rein to the imagination. “The Wrath of the Gods” has proved an outstanding success on the continent and in England as it introduces under it’s excellent Box office tile a mass of amazingly beautiful Alpine material, woven into a powerful story, a story that expresses something of the spirit of the mountains amid which it is set.
