CORNWELL CUP CONTESTS
TRIAL RACES TO-MORROW Trial races for selecting Auckland s representative yacht to compete in the Cornwell Cup contests on January 14, will be held to-morrow afternoon bv the Takapuna Boating Chib. The trial's will be sailed over the club’s courses, beginning at 1.80 p.m. Afterwards the boats will probably take part in the Victoria Cruising Club’s annual regatta. It was previously intended to postpone the trials, but as Auckland's contestant must be announced by January 5. it was decided to proceed immediately with the eliminating races. Part of the clubhouse, at Bayswater, is being lined and converted into a hostel for the accommodation of crews from other ports and a chef and steward have been engaged. An invitation has been sent to each of the eight crews competing to bring their fathers and two or three club officers from their home port to visit Auckland as guests of the Takapuna. Boating Club. It is anticipated that 40 boys and their friends will stay at the clubhouse. A complimentary dance will bo given on January 18 by the Cornwell Cup entertainment committee in honour of the visiting yachtsmen. All the Takapuna class yachts will be handed over to the club by January 4 for use in the contests. The craft will be painted and generally o\ rer- | hauled.
