DIDN’T COMPETE AFTER ALL
Geoff Alley, the All Black footballer, did not compete in the New Zealand track and field cham-
pionships a t C hr istchurch after all. Right at the last minute, it was discovered that the All Black had competed at an outback sports meeting in Southland a year or two ago when he was farming down that way, and the mere fact
that it was for small cash prizes automatically made Alley a professional. The big fellow never bothered to apply for reinstatement, and when he mentioned the facts on the eve of the big All New Zealand gathering, it was deemed advisable that he should not compete in the shot-putting event, in which he ranks as the Canterbury champion. ryr fft rfc W: -ft rfc
