Train Alteration. —A slight alteration to the Huntly—Glen Afton trains on Saturday next is advertised in this issue by the Railway Department.
Stolen Clothing.—Edward James Euseden, aged 34, charged at the Police Court to-day with stealing women’s clothing valued at £25 10s, was remanded to appear again on Monday.
Water for Waiuku. —The Waiuku Town Board has arranged to put down a trial bore for water on Mr. H. Barnaby’s property. Work will be started next week.
Bookmaking Charge. —Harry Tepp Asher, tobacconist and hairdresser, Hamilton, pleaded not guilty to-day to a charge of carrying on the business of a bookmaker, and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
Packing-cases on Fire.—Packingcases piled at the rear of the garage of Dominion Motors Ltd., caught fire shortly after 8.30 p.m. yesterday. The blaze was extinguished by the City Brigade, little damage being done.
North Otago Athletics.—Active interest has been aroused in amateur athletics in North Otago. Yesterday evening a large and enthusiastic meeting decided to form a club to affiliate with the Otago centre.—Press Association.
Boy’s Elbow Dislocated.—As the result of falling during a game, Frank de Semma, aged 15, dislocated his elbow. He was taken to the Auckland Hospital. His parents live at 15 Napier Street.
Child Scalded. Suffering from scalds to the face, arms and legs, caused through upsetting boiling water, Maurice Traill, aged two, was admitted to the Auckland Hospital last evening. His parents live at 19 Francis Street, Grey Lynn.
Waterside Mishap. —A waterside worker, J. Twohill, had his leg broken through being struck by a case while working on the Port Denison at the Queen’s Wharf yesterday afternoon. He was taken to his home at Tutanekai Street, Grey Lynn, by the St. John Ambulance.
Schoolgirl’s Leg Broken.—Through being knocked down by two boys on a cycle while on her way home from school. Phyllis Carlyon, aged 10. of 27 Alda Street, Onehunga, was admitted to the Auckland Hospital last evening suffering from a fractured left leg. Her condition is improving.
Shop Damaged by Fire.—A shop with house attached at 41 Surrey Crescent, Grey Lynn, owned by Mr. Bell and occupied by Mr. Cooper, was damaged by fire shortly before 7.30 o’clock last evening. The City Brigade prevented the flames from spreading, a wall only being destroyed. The shop is insured for £SOO in the Sun Insurance Office and the house for £550.
Empire Letters.—Mr. L. O. Hooker, of Hawera. the originator of the children’s Empire letter scheme, presented Mr. L. S. Amery, the Dominions Secretary, with a large framed photograph of Mount Egmont and an album of nearly 30 views of the mountain. Mr. Hooker travelled through a part of Taranaki with Mr. Amery and gave him particulars of the children’s letter exchanges with a view' to interesting the Empire Marketing Board.
