Croft, Canadian Trade Commissioner, returned to Auckland this morning from a trip to the. South. Mr A. J- C. Fisher, director of the Elam Art School in Auckland, will spend the Christmas holidays at Taupo. Mr. Charles Wilson, formerly Government librarian, is on a visit to Auckland. He is accompanied by Mrs. Wilson. Mr. Dynes Fultpn, chairman of directors o( the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, also went South last evening. Dr. T. H. A. Valintino. DirectorGeneral of Health, arrived from Hamilton last evening. He is staying at the Grand Hotel. Tha Rev. Fercy Coleman, of St. Aidan’s, Remuera, returned this morning from a tour abroad. He was accompanied by Mrs. Coleman. The Right Rev. Dr. Cleary. Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, who underwent an operation on Tuesday, is reported to be making favourable progress.
Mr. W. Goodfellow, managing director of the Now Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, left for the South last evening by the Limited.
Mr. John Barr. Auckland city librarian, will leavo later in the week on a short visit to Wellington. He proposes sailing fo.r Sydney on a visit to his parents toward the end of the month. Mr. E. W. Bennett, assistant curator at the Canterbury Museum, has been appointed lecturer in biology in the University of West Australia, says an A. and N.Z. cablegram from Sydney. Mr. David McMillan, who has represented the Alexander Hamilton Institute in New Zealand for the past seven years, has been promoted to the position of sales manager for Australia and New Zealand, with headquarters in Sydney. He has now taken up his new appointment. Mr. Barrie Marschel, general manager for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (N.Z.), Ltd, has been compelled to decline the invitation of Mr,. Arthur M. Loew to attend the International Convention at New York on February 13. Mr. Marschel was to have sailed on January 17. but because of the pressure of business he will not be able to go. Mr. F. J. .Tones, M.V.0., chairman of the Railway Board, was presented with the badge of the Companion of the Imperial Service Order, together with His Majesty’s warrant conferring upon him that dignity, by His Excellency the Governor-General, after the meeting of the Executive Council held at Parliament Buildings yesterday, in the presence of the Ministers of the Crown, members of the Railway Board, representatives of branches of the department and others.
