“AN EXCELLENT IDEA”
COMPENSATION CLAIMS SETTLEMENT BY DOCTORS “I am very pleased you have been able to settle it so satisfactorily. I think it is an excellent idea to have a conference of doctors first. It is always difficult for a lay court to decide where doctors fail to agree, and I often think that if they could put their heads together they could come to an agreement.” In the Arbitration Court yesterday his Honour, Mr. Justice Frazer, paid a handsome compliment to the Auckland method of handling compensation actions by endeavouring to reach a Settlement through the medical experts of both sides. Mr. J. J. Sullivan was. able to announce to the court the settlement of a claim of his client, Charles Lynds, against the New Zealand Shipping Company, for whom Mr. R. D. Bagnall appeared.
Lynds had been working on the Remuera when she was unloading at Queen’s Wharf on June 15, 1927. A sling of galvanised iron swung towards him while he was .working at one of the hatches on the lower deck, and although he tried to avoid it his left arm was crushed. He had t»een continuously under medical attention since. Judgment was entered by consent for a commuted sum equal to 21 per cent, of the total permanent disability.
