NORTH SHORE SWIMMING
DEVONPORT CLUB MEETS The Devonport Swimming Club met at the Masonic Hall last evening. Mr. A. Lane presiding. „ ~ „ The resignation of Mr. Hobbs-Jones, who is leaving the district, was accepted with regret. , _ .. Final arrangements were made for the club's gala on Saturday at Cheltenham. It is expected that a party of children from HelensviHe will be competing in the children’s events and the club will entertain them. _ A __ The attention of the Devonport Borough Council is to be drawn to the need for the re-erection of warning notices on the beaches at places where strangers may meet danger. The signs previously existing have been destroyed. The floodlighting on the beaches at night is not efficient and the question is to be referred to the Borough Council, which is also to be asked to supply one of its unused fire-hose reels for a reel for lifesaving club lines. It was reported that the Windsor Beach Is to be equipped with a shute through the Devonport Ferry Company, which recently supplied a pontoon for that beach to replace one destroved by storms during the winter. The chairman and secretary were appointed delegates to meet with others from the Yacht Club, Rowing Club and North Shore Expansion League to arrange for the holding of a joint gala in the New Year.
