NGATEA NOTES
PIPIROA FERRY CLOSED The ferry over the Piako River at Pipiroa on the Auckland-Thames highway will be closed until about December 20, to enable alterations to be made to the ramps. The approach from the Pipiroa side is considered to be too steep for heavily-laden vehicles, and the ramp on the Kopuarahi side does not extend quite far enough at dead low tide. The Hauraki Plains County ..Council is having the work done as quickly as possible in view of the Christmas traffic, but much of the work will have to be done at low tide only. w * * Two lverepeehi schoolgirls had arms broken last week through falling off the same horse while riding to school. On Monday morning Evelyn Hegh was mounting when the horse moved away and she fell, breaking her left arm. On Friday Mavis Nicholson was riding the same horse to school, when it shied at a road repairing implement and threw her off. Her right arm was broken. * • * The Turua district's Roll of'Honour which has been for many years in the lobby of the post office, has been renovated, corrected and placed in a conspicuous position in the Turua Town Hall. Funds for this purpose were collected at the last Anzac Day church service.
