MINING NEWS

ALBURN I A.— The manager reports as follows: Driving north has been continued on the dropper, the distance driven for the week being 31 feet, making a total distance of 90 feet in this direction. The leader continues to be a well defined body of quartz, and is maintaining an average width of about 18 inches. The ore has a splendid appearance, and is encased in a good class of country rock. In the last breaking down a little fine-grained antimony was again seen in the stone broken. Driving seaward on the Sons of Freedom reef was also in hand. The distance driven for the week was 11 feet, making a total distance of 70 feet to date. The reef has taken a turn into the western wall, and at present only IS inches of it is showing in the face. We are still seeing a little gold at each breaking down, and in the last breaking down a few nice coarse blotches were seen. The indications here are all that can be desired for making good values. HAURAKI. —The manager wired yesterday as follows: Strong colours of gold showing in reef on the seaward face, at the 400 feet level. OCCIDENTAL UNA. — The manager reports: The drive on the No. 3 reef going north has been advanced 6ft, the reef being a compact body of ore carrying blend and silica. Ten pounds of picked stone was secured from there at the last breaking down. Going south the drive from the rise has been connected with the main travelling way. Stoping on this block will be started this week. Stoping on the dropper has been continued; the quartz broken shows nice gold.
