BIZET’S “CARMEN”
AUCKLAND PRODUCTION Bizet’s “Carmen,” one of the most popular grand operas ever written, and which includes such familiar numbers as the famous Toreador’s Song and “Hebanera,” will be presented at His Majesty’s Theatre on December 19. Madame Irene Ainsley, who is sponsoring the production, will take the part of “Carmen,” which she has sung over 200 times during her operatic career in Britain and elsewhere. She will b© supported by a strong cast of Auckland artists. There will be a chorus of 60 voices, and the ballets, brilliantly costumed, are being arranged by Miss Daphne Knight.
