The different colours of flowers are due to the varying colour of the cell sap, to the different distribution of the cells containing the coloured sap, and to the different combinations of dissolved colouring matter. The colours are possibly useful in attracting or warning off insects, but why and howplants iaavo developed different colours is not well understood,
